summery summary

Saw this sunny flower a few weeks ago, growing out of an asphalt parking lot off Interstate I-95 somewhere in Virginia. About six feet tall with a center the size of a dinner plate. Just wow to that yellow against the blue sky. A perfect salute to summer here on its last official day: to the road trips and armchair travels, to the garden that's offered up handfuls of cherry tomatoes daily since June, dancing at my nephew's wedding and a rain-soaked hike in the Carolina mountains with best friends from childhood. To spotting an Indigo Bunting, the best book sale ever, cold copper cups filled with Moscow Mules and the most adorable straw tote with pom-poms. Also: jazz in a sculpture garden, a morning walk through a monastery and watching the sun set over the marsh at Kiawah. Woven throughout it all was ordinary work, worries, laughter, tears, heat, humidity and plenty of iced coffee. Summing it up readies the heart for the season to come.

That is really a testament of will to be growing tall and bright regardless of it's surroundings! Beautiful picture and post. Soon it will be fall!
