the great pumpkin patch of the life

Sweet, sweet Halloween. To costumes, carving pumpkins and fun-size candy bars. To Carl Sandburg's Theme in Yellow, Ina Garten's corn chowder and hot dogs on the grill. To dusk falling, crunchy leaves underfoot and being spine-tinglingly happy. To childhood. And to sitting in the pumpkin patch under a big bright moon, not caring if the Great Pumpkin makes a cameo because life itself is magical, and you already have more than you could have ever wished for.

voter's high

I exercised today.  It was painless, tipped the scale in the direction of sweet freedom and even induced a bit of euphoria.

Wanting to start a movement here in Charlotte after things fell apart. Lots of pain, distress and despair in our city. There is a lack of opportunity for so many. Yet reasons to be hopeful, too. Stay tuned.

Find your bunny, bird, butterfly

Find your bunny. Find your bird. Find your butterfly. Reach down deep inside and find the thing that has your soul written all over it. Then lavish it on the world with big love. That's my take-away from meeting Hunt Slonem this week and basking in front of painting after wonderful painting by him. I'm still floating on a colorful, creative cloud because of it. You can see what I mean at the New Gallery of Modern Art in Charlotte where Mr. Slonem's brilliant work is on display through November 15th.
